A romantic ghost story based on the novel by K.M. Peyton. Filmed on location in Essex, the setting is a weekend cottage by a lake in winter. This was Helena Bonham Carter’s first film. She was still at school and accompanied a friend to his audition, not thinking that she herself would be cast in one of the lead roles.

parallels between their lives which bring past and present together in

secrets but at the same time exploring the impact of first love through
the inhibitions and yearnings of adolescence.
