A romantic ghost story based on the novel by K.M. Peyton. Filmed on location in Essex, the setting is a weekend cottage by a lake in winter. This was Helena Bonham Carter’s first film. She was still at school and accompanied a friend to his audition, not thinking that she herself would be cast in one of the lead roles.

First shown on Channel 4

School leaver, Tim Ingram, becomes obsessed by the fate of Tom Inskip, a boy who lived in the same cottage just before World War 1. Apart from having the same initials, Tim discovers other disturbing parallels between their lives which bring past and present together in a chilling climax on the lake. The story is a thriller, unearthing buried secrets but at the same time exploring the impact of first love through the inhibitions and yearnings of adolescence.
